It has been a while since I’ve posted. I’ll try to briefly recall some of the things I’ve been doing over the last few days, and I’ll give you a more complete report when I don’t have to pay for the internet:
Left Iraklio to Anogeia, hitchhiked to Zoniana.
Camped outside of Zoniana, woke up to sheep bells and the flock a few feet away.
Drank ‘herbal’ tea offered to me by local mafioso. Discussed local agriculture.
Hiked to Anogeia, took bus to Iraklio, hopped on another bus to Vorvoulitis. Missed my stop, hitchhiked to Vorvoulitis.
Recovered lost camera in abandoned building. Set up tent in olive garden. lol.
Hiked from Vorvoulitis to Kapariana. Kapariana was deceptively huge and I hated it because my pack is heavy and I lack training.
Caught a ride with a guy named Steve. Told him I wanted to go to Timpaki and he said don’t go there. I said then I’ll go to Kokinos Pirgos. He replied I’d be better of in Agia Galini. I said alright, but where are you headed. He said, I live there. Oh!
Met Patrick, owner of a bar called Apnea, and his patrons. Spent evening there and set up my tent about a kilometer outside of town on a cliff next to the ocean.
Three days later I am still here.
I will be in Agia Galini for who knows how long. I figured out that I can get money from my Visa card at ATMs. PERFECT! I think when the weather turns rainy I may have to jet. A friend Ari, an older man from Holland whose favorite beer is Leffe, told me to beware of the Agia Galini curse. Many come… AND NEVER LEAVE!!! WOOOOO! Yeah, there might be a curse.
PS: Andrew, I drank Leffe here, and since there are mostly Belgian ex-pats around, there is tons of it.
